5 Things to do in Morzine, France (That are not skiing or mountain biking)

During the summer of 2023, I worked a seasonal job in a beautiful town called Morzine-France. Only 1 hour away from Geneva-Switzerland and right in the French Alps. Every morning I walked to work, seeing the beautiful mountains. Ah, what a bliss! Morzine is known for mountain biking during winter and skiing during winter. If you ever find yourself in this region wanting to do something else this article is for you! Spending two months in Morzine I made list of what you should definitely do if you visit this part of the French Alps!

1. Get a (day) lift pass and go the French/Swiss border

If you’re feeling up for adventure, you can take the lift pass all the way to the Swiss border! It requires 2 (relatively short) hikes.

Start: Morzine

  • From Morzine you take the lift to Montriond
  • In Montriond you hike to the next lift
  • From Montriond you take the lift to Avoriaz
  • From Avioriaz you hike for roughly 1 hour (Have a little break and have lunch in one of the food spots, or walk up to the waterfall, enjoy the scenery and have lunch there)
  • Take the lift from Avoriaz to Mossettes (Switzerland)
  • Enjoy the view from the border of France seeing Switzerland

Tip: If you have extra time you can take another chairlift to go to one of the swiss villages! There is much more to discover beyond the viewing point. 🙂

2. Hike to Point the Nyon

If you feel like hiking, go hike up the point of the Nyon! There is a footbridge called: “Le Pas de l’Aigle.” Which is super easy to reach. You can either take the chairlift or hike your way up there. If you choose the take the hiking route you will see lots of mountain cows, a beautiful lake and flora and fauna.  The walking trail is about 40 minutes long. Difficulty varies depending on the route.

3. Do an activity!

Morzine offers lots of fun activities! Play tennis in between all the gorgeous mountains right in Morzine’s centre. Go Paragliding. Enjoy the summer sledge. Be adventurous and follow a route via Ferrata or do some white water rafting!

4. Go to Lake Montriond

Lake Montriond is only 5km from Morzine. Take the free bus (line m) and you will be at a gorgeous lake in 15 minutes. It is the perfect spot to unwind and go for a swim. You can hire kayaks, or paddleboards (or bring your own), walk around the lake, play minigolf, do yoga and at the far end of the village there are BBQ spots

5. Visit Les Lindarets

Also known as ‘goat village’. In this tiny village, you will see free-roaming goats everywhere. The goats are friendly (for your treats) and after you feed the goats you might as well try the local food. Les Lindarets offers a few bars, restaurants and cafes. I highly recommend Les Lindarets’ cheesemonger. They offer a range of local cheeses, meats and more items and products grown and made in that area.
