The European Union finances several travel opportunities. The general condition is that you are a European inbetween 18-30 years old. It is possible for non-EU residents to join too, when specified into the project itself
What is DiscoverEU?
Discover EU is a EU initiative offering young people the opportunity to travel Europe. By participating you get the chance to win a railway ticket around Europe for a month. In general there are 2 rounds per year. You can send in an application through the European Youth Portal
Are you older than 18? No worries, the EU also has an initiative called the European Solidarity Corpse
What is the European Solidarity Corpse?
The European Solidarity Corpse, also known as ESC is a European Union initiative for young people to volunteer abroad. Projects are planned by NGOs (Non-government organisations) in different countries and financed by the EU. There are short and long term projects. They cover a range of topics such as; environmental protection, tolerance, anti-racism, work skills, disabilities, children, culture, arts and sport
What is funded?
To make these projects available for all European citizens, they are supported financially by the EU. Travel costs to the country, accommodation and sometimes food are provided. In addition to that you get an additional monthly allowance or ‘pocket money’
It is basically a network of organisations across Europe, sending youngsters across Europe. In the European Youth Portal you find a range of different volunteering opportunities. From doing youth work and helping the community, to working in an office and making social media campaigns creating awareness of environmental issues. The options are endless.
You can only participate once. The projects can last between one month up to one year.
Who can participate?
All European Citiziens aged between 18 and 30 can participate in ESC. They must be legally resident in the EU Member States or the following partner countries:
Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia and Turkey, Liechtenstein, Iceland, Norway, Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Kosovo, Montenegro, Serbia, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Moldova, Ukraine, Algeria, Egypt, Israel, Jordan, Lebanon, Libya, Morocco, Palestine, Syria, Tunisia and Russian Federation
